Romansh Language
Romansh is the smallest yet one of the most distinctive of Switzerland’s four national languages. Spoken mainly in the canton of Graubünden, Romansh has deep roots that stretch back nearly two thousand years to the Roman era. Derived from the Latin spoken by Roman settlers and influenced by local Alpine cultures, it has developed into a unique language that remains an important part of Switzerland’s cultural heritage. Today, Romansh is spoken by a small minority of the population, but its historical and cultural significance extends far beyond its numbers. to protecting minority languages and ensuring that every linguistic community remains an integral part of the Swiss Confederation.
